Alhamdu SACCO promotes textile and apparel enterprises by supporting artisans and entrepreneurs to produce high-quality products that meet both local and regional market demand. Through tie and dye techniques, tailoring and garment production, members create unique products that celebrate culture while generating sustainable incomes.

The tie and dye tradition is deeply embedded in ASAL cultural practice, particularly within Somali and other pastoralist communities in Wajir County. By formalizing production, tightening quality control and building a coherent product range, the SACCO is converting a heritage craft into a commercially viable enterprise line with clear routes to household, institutional and export-oriented markets.

Our Tie-and-Dye textile production is more than just an economic activity—it is the cultural and creative soul of Alhamdu Ademasajida SACCO. Engaging nearly three-quarters of our 120 members, this craft is a living tradition passed down through generations of women in Wajir County. It is a celebration of color, pattern, and heritage, transformed into a viable, modern business.

The Art & Craft: Our members are masters of their craft. Using time-honored techniques, they skillfully fold, twist, pleat, or crumple fabric before binding it with string and immersing it in vibrant, high-quality dyes. Each piece is unique, a testament to the artisan's individual skill and creativity. We produce a wide range of garments including:

• Traditional Attire: Beautiful kangas, khangas, and kikois that are cherished for their bold, expressive patterns.
• Modern Fashion: Stylish dresses, shirts, headwraps, and accessories that blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary design.
• Custom Fabrics: Unique, made-to-order textiles for events, cultural ceremonies, and special occasions.
• Homeware: Vibrant throws, cushion covers, and table linens that bring a touch of African artistry to any home.
  

Our Transformation under KJET: Before the KJET mentorship, our production was informal, with inconsistent dye measurements and no standardized processes. This often led to color variations and quality inconsistencies that limited our market appeal. The mentorship program was a game-changer. We have since:

• Standardized Dyeing Procedures: We have developed and implemented clear, measurable procedures for dye mixing, water temperature, and immersion times. This ensures that every batch of fabric meets a consistent standard of color brilliance and fastness, whether it's a single piece or a bulk order.
• Introduced Quality Control Checks: We have established a "Quality Check" stage in our workflow. Members now inspect each finished product for color uniformity, pattern clarity, and overall craftsmanship before it reaches our customers. This reduces waste and guarantees a premium product.
• Improved Workflow Planning: We have moved from ad-hoc production to planned schedules, ensuring we can meet customer deadlines and manage our inventory more efficiently.
  

Our Ambition: With our new systems in place, we are now positioned to move beyond local markets and village stalls. Our goal is to attract institutional buyers, boutique retailers, and even international customers who value authentic, high-quality, ethically-made textiles. We are actively pursuing KEBS certification to formalize our quality standards and build trust with larger buyers, opening the door to a future of exponential growth for our members.
